When most people first sign up for a business opportunity they are SO excited to get started. They have bought into the hype that all they need to do is sign up with this system and you will start making thousands of dollars in no time at all. But one thing these opportunities fail to mention is how to market your new business opportunity.

Would you place your yellow pages ad in the wrong category? Would you pay thousands of dollars to film a commercial only for it to play when no one is watching TV? Would you put a billboard on a road that no one travels? Would you sell golf equipment to someone who plays baseball? Get the picture?

You have to market your business opportunity to people who are interested in what you have to offer. The number one problem with marketing your online business today is that companies are trying to convince you to buy their generic leads but those leads may not be looking for a business opportunity. Therefore, you have just spent the majority of your budget on useless leads and then you wonder why you aren’t making any money.

So how do you market your business opportunity to the right audience?

1. The first thing you need to do is get your own capture page. This is your business! People are tired of seeing the same old generic sites when they are presented with a business opportunity. They can’t relate to the person behind the site. If you are going to spend your hard earned money to invest in a business opportunity, would you rather go with a site like everyone else’s and not know who your sponsor is or would you rather join with someone you can relate to and feel like they will be there to help you every step of the way?

2. Start a Blog because blogs are really popular on the internet right now. Make your blog informative and just write about how you got started and why you went with the business opportunity that you are currently in. Remember, people relate to people so you would rather have people join your business that are really interested in you and your product. Those people will usually end up being the most productive members of your team. You can blog about your product, talk about its features, the benefits, how it can help others, etc. Be sure to update it on a regular basis.

3. Article marketing is still a very popular way to advertise your product for free. It can position you as an expert in your chosen niche which is really important in convincing others to believe in you and your products. Write about what you have learned since having your own business. Even if you feel you have nothing important to write about, people can relate to others even if it’s telling them what not to do.

4. Create a video of you talking about your product, your team or why you got into this industry. Whatever topic you think others may be interested in hearing about. Open an account on YouTube and place all your videos for others to see. You can get an inexpensive webcam to start with and then use Windows Movie Maker to place your website link either in or at the end of your video. It’s a free way to make your video more presentable. Just put yourself in your customers shoes and what do you think they would want to know about you, your product or your service.

5. Social Networking has become even more popular online today. Create a profile on MySpace and write about how you got into the business, put your videos on your profile and any other pertinent information you feel others may be interested in. It’s a great place to meet others in internet marketing as well.

I hope some of these tips have been helpful in how to promote your business to the right audience. Marketing your business can really be a fun experience.

Many people who have a business and a thriving website will wonder if they should start using dedicated servers. Most companies, especially small businesses, will start out with shared servers. It could be because they don’t know that there are other options, or because they realize that they are small enough that they do not need the benefits that the dedicated variety offers. Perhaps they are afraid that the cost of these servers is simply too great for their company. They might be right. They might not want to change server types until they are sure that their company is outgrowing the shared server they are using.

As the company grows though, they will find that being on a shared server is restricting. When they have increases in traffic, their visitors will find that the pages are loading slowly, and that is one of the worst things to happen to any website.

You can lose visitors and potential customers when that happens. If that is where your business is now, then dedicated servers might be what you need.

You will be able to have an entire server to yourself. The space is yours, and you will not be competing with any other sites, which means your pages are going to load quickly. If this sounds like something your company could use, then it is time that you start looking for hosting options.

You will need to choose between managed and unmanaged hosting then. When you choose unmanaged hosting, you will be responsible for the server and all that goes along with it. Unless you have plenty of experience, or a team that can handle it, this is probably not the option for you. Instead, you should choose managed hosting.  Your host can help you set up and manage the server, and the only thing that you need to concern yourself with is the content of your site and running your business.

Research the web to find some of the best places to get the servers you need and hosts if you are going to choose the managed hosting option. You will be able to choose from many great hosts, but make sure that they offer what you need. Even though dedicated servers are more expensive than shared server hosting is you will find that it is worth it if you have an up and coming site.

People often ask me, “How do I start with Internet marketing? What were your first steps?” Actually, that’s pretty simple, but it may still take you a while to figure things out. The first thing is to pick a niche that you can market to. What topic excites you? What do you have some experience with that you can enjoy working in every day? What might you build a business around and live with for a very long time to come? This is where your niche comes in.

Finding that is really the key. Figure that out. It can be something you know a lot about already or about something you want to learn more about. Either situation will work. Then, you need to invite a bunch of people to work with you, and they should have lists and products to sell.

Then, they promote your interview series. You’ve probably seen this done several times before. You get the people you’ve invited to promote the whole interview series, and on the thank-you page, after people have opted in, you sell a product and they earn an affiliate commission. Then, comes the interviews and you’re all set!

At the end of each interview, you’ll sell your partner’s product through your affiliate link. They’ll be making money, you’ll be making money, and you’re also building up a series of recordings–that you know nothing about or that you know a lot about. Either you’re an inquisitive interviewer or an expert interviewer. But you can use these recordings later on, as a product, too.

“I have experience in this topic. I’d like to know what your thoughts are on…” and ask questions from your particular area of expertise. Then, you’ll be off and running.

Get ten to twelve people on the topic who have lists and can promote to your list, and that’s how you get your feet wet with Internet marketing. I got started in Internet marketing that way, and you can, too.

What happens then, when the series has ended? You have a big list of people who have signed up for the teleseminars and are now on your list. So, you go over to ClickBank and get some products that you can promote to your niche audience and you send them some emails with some great tips and make the products solve whatever problem it is they’re having. You’re going to be making more money with Internet marketing that way, and my Perpetual Marketing Machine course outlines the whole process. It worked for me! No matter what niche you’re into, Internet marketing is very, very powerful.

Seems like people who can talk perfectly well, or write an interesting letter to a friend, suddenly freeze up and turn into someone else when they sit down to write a “serious” letter.

Serious as in “This letter needs to be good so these people will want to do business with me.” They get nervous and worried about being proper, and their letters come out sounding stiff and, frankly, pretty boring.

If that happens to you, these steps will help. First, remember that the letter has to be “about” your reader and that you are always writing to just one person – even if the letter will be broadcast to 40,000. Keep that one person in your mind, and “talk” to him or her as you write. Next, find yourself a place where you can work in solitude – you don’t need any interruptions while you’re creating.

Step 1: Write down whatever you’re thinking you want to communicate. Get all your thoughts on the paper where you can see them – and where they can’t suddenly escape. Don’t worry about putting your thoughts in order.

I especially like this step, because your creativity isn’t hampered at all, and you may find a gem of an idea when you read what you wrote.

Step 2: Arrange those thoughts into some kind of logical order to give your message a good structure.

Step 3: Polish. This is where you’d check to make sure you have good transitions between paragraphs, smooth out any awkward spots that can stop a reader cold, and even eliminate a few sentences that don’t add strength to your message. Reading it aloud will alert you to any stumbling blocks. (Yes, do it even though it feels silly.)

Step 4:Call in your inner critic. But be careful here. You’re looking for communication, not the rules of grammar. This letter needs to sound like a good conversation.

Now you can do away with the solitude for a little while for steps 5 and 6.

Step 5: Have someone else read the message to make sure it clearly conveys what you want to say. Just don’t take every criticism as gospel, because each of us has our own opinion.

Three readers could well give you three opinions. Listen to what they suggest, consider it, and then accept or reject a change based on your own instincts.

This step is scary for a timid writer – believe me I know! But consider this: Wouldn’t you rather hear from a friend that a sentence is unclear than have a customer round file your message because they didn’t quite “get it?”

Step 6: Get someone to proofread your work for the sole purpose of making sure you haven’t missed any typos. When you know what you’ve written it is far too easy to miss a spot where you might have written something like: “it it far too easy” in the sentence above. Have them also check for misuse of words like there and their, your and you’re. Those can stop a reader cold as they try to decipher what you meant.

Step 7: Back to the solitude – Relax, smile, and think about the positive responses your letter will bring. It’s called using the Law of Attraction.
